Welcome back to Term 2

Wed Apr 27 08:47pm

Welcome back to Term 2! I hope you have all had a good holiday with your children. This term all students are expected to be wearing correct winter uniform including footwear. A reminder that all Year 7  & 8 students need a school tie. As we are at Orange level we have reviewed and changed some of our processes.

At Orange, face masks are no longer required at school. However public health advice is that masks continue to be strongly encouraged when indoors. Wearing a mask is a key health measure that slows the spread of COVID-19 in indoor settings. For that reason, we ask that visitors to the school, including parents and whānau, wear a mask whenever they are indoors on school grounds.

We also ask that your child (if they are Year 4+) continues to bring a mask to school every day. There may be times that we’ll ask them to wear a mask, too – for example, when we are having an assembly in the hall. If there are a high number of cases at school or in the community, we may ask that masks are worn in classrooms for a time.

At Orange, students aged 12 and above are still required to wear a face mask on school or public transport.

Dropping off student/s:

If you are dropping students to school, you no longer need to sign in at the office. Please take your child directly to their class. Do not come through the office. If you need to be inside classrooms or the school building, you must still wear a mask please.

If you are meeting a teacher or visiting the uniform shop, then you are still required to sign in at the office and wear a mask.

Picking up student/s:

Parents and caregivers are allowed into the school playground to wait for and collect students. We ask that you please remain outside in the playground and observe social distancing. Please do not come into the classroom or school buildings to wait.

We will continue to keep all the other health measures in place at school that we know slow the spread of COVID-19. These include ensuring our indoor spaces are well-ventilated, maintaining good hand hygiene and cough and sneeze etiquette, appropriate physical distancing whenever we can and, most importantly, staying home if we are sick.

We are looking forward to a few less restrictions and returning to school life that is a bit closer to normal.

We look forward to seeing everyone back at school next Monday 2nd May at 9am.

Happy holidays

Thu Apr 14 03:44pm

Congratulations to all our students for their very respectful and prayerful Easter Play yesterday. It has been tricky organising and practicing with lots of people coming and going with Covid but everyone did really well! Special thanks to the Staff for all their hard work.

It has been a very different term but we have made it to the holidays! Thanks to all of you for your support of our processes. I would like to thank the entire staff for going the extra mile this term.

Yesterday I sent home a message about our processes for next term. Please read it if you didn’t yesterday as we have made some changes.

Have a happy and holy Easter and a great holiday. We will see you all back on Monday 2nd May at 9am for Term 2.

Moving to Orange – Term 2

Wed Apr 13 04:55pm

You’ll be aware that Minister of Education Chris Hipkins has announced the move to Orange at 11:59pm tonight.

The decision to move to Orange has been made on public health advice and reflects that we are moving past the peak of cases and our health system is able to cope. We are seeing that cases are declining due to high levels of vaccination and natural immunity after infection.

The change will take effect at Sacred Heart Petone from the beginning of Term 2. I wanted to give you an update on what the move to Orange means for our school.

Next term we can look forward to loosening some of our restrictions:

Covid and Isolating

Mon Mar 28 12:07pm

Kia ora Sacred Heart families

We still have many families isolating with Covid and isolating as houshold contacts.  We have just passed the halfway mark with our student body and staff contracting Covid, so we still have a way to go yet. Thank you to everyone for continuing to contact the office with results and keeping your children home if they are unwell. You are helping to slow the spread, for which we are very grateful.

Please read the following reminders around Covid and Isolating:

1.  If you or a member of your family test positive for Covid, please isolate for seven days. The day you test positive or the onset of symptoms is Day 0.

2.  If you have tested positive for Covid and have completed your seven day isolation, and you have no new or worsening symptoms, you are allowed out of isolation and can return to school.

*Please note that you do not need to retest if you have already tested positive, as the virus can stay in your system up to three months and can return multiple positive results.

3. Household contacts need to test on Day 3 and Day 7.

4. If you test negative on Day 7, you are allowed out of isolation and can return to school. (If you test positive on Day 3 or Day 7, this is your Day 0. Isolation starts again.)

5. If less than ten days have passed since you have isolated as a household contact, you do not need to isolate again if someone in your household tests positive for Covid-19.

6. If more than ten days have passed since you have isolated as a household contact, you will need to isolate again as a household contact if someone in your household tests positive for Covid-19.

Seesaw

Seesaw is a platform for student engagement that inspires students of all ages to do their best, and saves teachers time! Students use creative tools to take pictures, draw, record videos and more to capture learning in a portfolio. Teachers find or create activities to share with students. The Seesaw platform is used for homework activities as well as in class work.

Parents are also notified by the class teacher about classroom and school activities and events via the Seesaw platform. Parents can also Seesaw their child’s teacher.

Families only have access to their child’s journal. This means you will see student work tagged with your child’s name and posts the teacher tags with ‘Everyone’. Families will also be able to see any comment made by another user on their child’s journal posts.
